Baja Dogs La Paz Sterilization Campaign
Beginning in January 2021, Baja Dogs proudly announced the launch of our sterilization program.
As of June 1, 2021, over 200 dogs have already been sterilized!! Why is sterilization so important? A simple shocking fact is that 1 dog can lead to 67,000 puppies over her lifetime (generation after generation). Not only is sterilization important to prevent unwanted pregnancies and thereby end needless suffering of dogs struggling to survive, but it also prevents a variety of health issues including the sexually transmitted spread of Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) among both male and female dogs, which if left untreated is a life-threatening cancer.
$25 USD will pay to sterilize 1 dog. If you would like to help support our spay/neuter program, please use the donate form on this page.
Our Program and How it Works
Baja Dogs is working directly with qualified Veterinarians located in strategic locations throughout La Paz. A team of Volunteers canvas and distribute vouchers to underserved communities in which there is an overpopulation of dogs, which are owned by families who are unable to provide the means for sterilization. In turn, the owner makes an appointment with one of our approved vets and the voucher is redeemed at the time of sterilization. The service is complimentary to the redeemer, as the vet service will be paid for by Baja Dogs.
We also organize sterilization campaigns in communities where owners who do not have means of transportation and/or the ability to personally take their dog to a vet to get their dog sterilized. Again, our volunteers will canvas these communities and distribute vouchers for the dog owners to redeem at the centralized location in which the campaign is taking place. At this point, we are inundated with areas of need and will be working diligently to accomplish our mission. With that, we are unable to currently receive individual sterilization requests but are hoping soon to be able to open that option to you. Your patience and understanding are truly appreciated.
What we do not do: Baja Dogs does not sterilize stray dogs as we do not have the facilities to support the dogs pre/post-surgery. Because of this, we encourage anyone interested in getting a stray dog sterilized, to utilize the free service provided by the Centro de Salud and follow all their pre and post sterilization instructions for the safety of the dog before and after release.
